If you want to make sure that your vehicle will always have the best shot of staying on the road, you will need to make yourself aware of the signs that usually indicate a problem with your transmission. This way, you will have plenty of time to get it into a transmission repair shop for a repair before your vehicle completely stops working.

Losing Some Transmission Fluid

This is a warning sign of trouble that many people find themselves ignoring because of the thought that this is something that happens to vehicles as they age and it is okay to ignore it. The thing is, even if you try your best to keep up with the checking of the level of your transmission fluid, the leak could get a lot worse someday and you could lose all of it before you have a chance to realize it. This would cause your transmission to run dry and possibly lock up. If it does that, then you are most likely looking at having to completely replace your transmission instead of simply being able to repair it. Since a simple leak of fluid could be nothing more than a faulty hose or connection, you will want to have it repaired right away.

Delay In Engagement

If you put your vehicle into drive or reverse and notice that there is a slight delay before the vehicle engages and goes in the direction you want it to go, there is most likely a problem with your transmission. Even if the delay is only for a few seconds, you need to have a transmission repair technician check it out for you.

Hard Shifting

This is a symptom that is particular to when you are actually driving down the road. All vehicles shift between first, second, third, and fourth gear as you accelerate and gain speed. If you do not have a manual transmission with a stick shift in your car, your vehicle does this automatically for you. However, you can still feel a problem between the shifting of gears. As you accelerate, you should be able to pick up speed without a problem. Should you feel that there is a jerking motion in your vehicle as the vehicle accelerates, it could be that the transmission has a problem with its linkage.

With those three signs in mind, you should have no trouble determining what you need to get your vehicle to the transmission repair shop, such as Aamco Transmissions & Auto Repair.
